What We Do:
|
Our division serves over 200,000 alumni, 5,000 University employees, 22,000 students and the general public.
Advancement Services provides a full-range of information management support to Institutional Advancement and the University, including managing the alumni/donor database, providing technical support to staff, conducting in-depth research and analysis, and processing biographical and gift entries.
Through our Constituent Relations & Special Events office, we coordinate events that enhance the stewardship and development activities of the University (i.e., recognition and cultivation receptions, dinners for major donors and prospective donors, etc.). The unit provides assistance in the areas of acknowledgment,
scholarships, recognition, and cultivation. Assistance is also provided to the University with service awards, recognition, and retirement activities.
Alumni appreciation events are scheduled throughout the year to provide members with diverse activities where they can enjoy fellowship and fun with other members from around the country. Current membership in the SIU Alumni Association is over 16,000. Membership is not limited to graduates but open to friends of the University. Benefits of membership
include a subscription to the Southern Alumni quarterly magazine, Saluki Pride newsletter, and discounts from over 35 businesses in the region and around the country.

In addition to our state and local chapters, the Association has either chapters, clubs, or groups in the following areas: Austin, Texas; Central Florida; Indianapolis, Indiana; Los Angeles, California; Memphis, Tennessee; Phoenix, Arizona; Detroit, Michigan; St. Louis, Missouri; San Francisco, California; Seattle, Washington; and Washington, D.C.

The Extern Program, started in 1984 as one of the first in the United States, is sponsored by the SIU Alumni Association. This program helps college students gain hands-on experience in the workforce. Normally more than 200 SIUC students are matched with between 100-150 sponsors, who are either alumni or friends of the University, and have a corporate relationship with SIU. In 17 years, the Association has placed over 2,000 students in this program.
The SIU Foundation is currently raising on average about $10 million annually from private sources. This fund raising is done through central fund raisers for corporate, foundation, Annual Fund, and planned giving, and by development officers placed within the various colleges/schools, in Student Affairs, and at the Public Policy Institute. Like all of higher education, about 97% of money raised is for restricted purposes such as scholarships and other endowments.
