Opportunity Through Excellence
College of Agricultural Sciences
People. Programs. Places.
The Southern Illinois University Carbondale College of Agricultural Sciences is committed to the health and economic well-being of people across Illinois and beyond. Our extensive farms and cutting-edge research centers are managed and operated by faculty as well as graduate and undergraduate students. The College’s research faculty and programs are among the best and most productive in the nation.

We are equally committed to developing and providing learning and research opportunities that will strongly position our students for leadership roles in agriculture. Our students are instilled with an appreciation of the responsibilities of global citizenship and with the applicable skills to positively impact the quality of life for all people.

Our science-based undergraduate and graduate degree programs focus on the agricultural sciences, production technology, business and management, public policy and economic development, education and information, environmental quality and enhancement, recreation, and food and fiber utilization. The College pursues knowledge that addresses the urgent needs of an ever-growing world population.

Our research scientists excel at both real-world problem solving and sharing their findings about such diverse topics as low-impact pesticides and rural economic development. Farmers, agricultural professionals, peers, and the general public all benefit from their continuing work.

The College’s history is long, and our opportunities have never been greater. Priorities for the College are in focus, and our strategic vision guides us in our quest. Undergraduate enrollment will soon top l,000, new initiatives have been implemented to strengthen our relations with industry clientele, and several new teaching programs have been launched.

Success in achieving our goals will require an unprecedented commitment from faculty, alumni, friends, and industry partners.

Support for the College
As part of the Opportunity Through Excellence Campaign for Southern, an unprecedented $100 million effort through the SIU Foundation, the College seeks to raise $5 million for the following purposes:

Commitment to Students
$l million

Public resources for higher education have dwindled over the past several decades. Endowed and general scholarships will assist the College of Agricultural Sciences in recruiting, attracting, and retaining outstanding students. Upon graduating from Southern Illinois University Carbondale, these alumni will enter careers important to continuing society’s progress.

Commitment to Faculty
$2 million

Competition among research universities for leading-edge faculty is fierce. Endowed chairs, professorships, and fellowships will allow the College to provide enhanced financial resources for new and continuing faculty to carry on teaching and research activities imperative to the long-term growth of society.

Commitment to Facilities and Technology
$2 million

While the College continues to maintain a considerable amount of physical resources, many of its facilities and equipment have become outdated and are in need of repair or replacement. Significant support for facilities and technology will allow students and faculty to develop their abilities further in state-of-the-art laboratories
and classrooms.
