People. Programs. Places.
Southern Illinois University Carbondale’s College of Business and Administration aspires to rank among the top 50 business colleges in the nation. The College’s programs are fully accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business. Students prepare for challenging careers in business, industry, government, and education. They benefit from a strong grounding in essential business skills and a familiarity with cutting-edge resources for acquiring specialized technical skills. Our graduates are well equipped to compete in the global marketplace.
As part of the Opportunity Through Excellence Campaign for Southern, an unprecedented $100 million effort through the SIU Foundation, the College seeks to raise $9.7 million for the following purposes:
Student Excellence
$l million
Scholarships are an indispensable tool in attracting and retaining highly sought-after students. The College is also committed to a student body that closely resembles
the diversity of today’s business community. Funds are needed to provide merit-, diversity-, and need-based scholarships to students entering
the College of
Business in undergraduate, master’s, or doctoral programs.
Faculty Excellence
$2 million
Competition among major universities for talented, experienced faculty is fierce. As the business world gains complexity, the competition for superior educators will only increase. Named endowed chairs, professorships, and fellowships will help recruit and retain top faculty who excel in both teaching and research. These endowments will be used to supplement selected faculty salaries, fund research, and support professional travel. The College seeks funding for several types of named endowed academic positions.
Academic Excellence
$l.7 million
The College seeks endowed support for an executive-in-residence program. Similar to scholar-in-residence or artist-in-residence programs, the executive-in-residence program will allow the College to bring highly talented and successful business leaders to Southern Illinois University Carbondale for the benefit of our business students. Students will be able to have face-to-face interaction with professionals from different areas in the business world, exposing them to new ideas and experiences.
To better equip business students to succeed in their chosen professions once they graduate, the College of Business and Administration also seeks endowed funding for five named centers of academic excellence. These centers will build upon the instructional and research goals of the College.
- The Center for Innovation
- The Center for Entrepreneurship
- The Center for International Business
- The Center for Business Ethics
- The Center for Financial Services
Facilities, Equipment, and Technology
$5 million
Rehn Hall, built in l964, is home to the College of Business and Administration. It is sorely outdated and too small to adequately serve our current students’ needs. It consists of just five classrooms, two computer laboratories, student meeting and study rooms, conference rooms, faculty meeting rooms, and faculty offices. Significant funding is needed to enlarge and
update the facility.
Business graduates are expected to be proficient in business applications using the latest technologies. Hands-on access to up-to-date computer and multimedia equipment and technology is absolutely essential for training today’s business student. Quality teaching and faculty research also depend on these valuable and expensive tools.
A commitment to improving facilities and technology will enable the College to continue to attract and retain talented students and faculty and will further our mission to become one of the top 50 business colleges in the nation. |
