ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR FOR DEVELOPMENT (CONSTITUENT RELATIONS) – INTERNAL SEARCH

Description: Southern Illinois University Carbondale invites applications and nominations for the position of Associate Director for Development (Constituent Relations). The successful candidate will be responsible for fundraising and stewardship activities associated with internal constituents and is expected to identify, cultivate and solicit private philanthropic financial support from SIU Carbondale faculty/staff, SIU Carbondale retirees, alumni and friends of Southern Illinois University Carbondale.

The position will also develop and lead the following initiatives: • Alumni Class Reunion Giving Programs • SIU Carbondale Senior Class Giving projects • SIU Carbondale Student Engagement in Philanthropy Day • Managing solicitation processes from the campus community • Maintaining a campus-wide solicitation/event calendar. Become familiar with and understand key initiatives of the university relating to faculty, students, instruction and research. Prepare proposals and gift agreements as required for proper gift documentation. Ensure effective records maintenance, including timely filing of requests for prospect assignments, prospect strategies and contact reports using SIU Foundation’s prospect management system. Travel, including nights and weekends, required. This position requires the ability to use good judgment, diplomacy, maintain confidentiality and represent the university with tact and diplomacy at all times.

Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of two years’ successful professional experience in fundraising or related non-profit organization work, alumni relations, PR/Marketing, or closely related field. A bachelor’s or master’s degree in nonprofit management or closely-related subject may be substituted for the two years of experience. Must have a valid driver’s license.

Preferred Qualifications: Experience with annual giving programming in a higher education environment.

Excellent writing, listening, and speaking skills, as well as strong organizational and time-management skills, computer competence, adaptability, and the ability to work in a collaborative, team-oriented environment.

Description:Southern Illinois University Carbondale invites applications and nominations for the position of Associate Director for Development and Alumni Relations (Law).   The successful candidate will orchestrate and execute the advancement of relationships with prospective donors through appropriate stages of qualification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship culminating in philanthropic support.

Performance Expectations:   Secure $500,000+ annually in new gifts & commitments. Manage a portfolio of 75-120 prospects. Conduct 80-150 substantive face to face personal visits per year, qualifying

40-60 new major gift prospects annually, submitting 10-20 major proposals/year. Become familiar with and understand key initiatives of the university relating to faculty, students, instruction and research.

Prepare proposals and gift agreements as required for proper gift documentation. Ensure effective records maintenance, including timely filing of requests for prospect assignments, prospect strategies and contact

reports using SIU Foundation’s prospect management system.

Minimum Qualifications:   Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of three years’ successful experience in professional fundraising or closely related field is required. Proven track record of successful experience in personal fundraising solicitations. Excellent writing, listening, and speaking skills are required; as well as strong organizational and time-management skills; computer competence, adaptability, and the ability to work in a collaborative, team-oriented environment. Must be willing to travel extensively.

Preferred Qualifications:   An ideal candidate will possess proven leadership and organizational skills, experience with comprehensive campaigns, a strong record of success in raising significant major gifts; and the willingness to develop a comprehensive development program that continually surpasses goals and overcomes obstacles. A Juris Doctorate Degree, Law School fundraising experience, or higher education advancement (development or alumni), experience preferred.
